Good afternoon! In this post I will share with you my experiences of being a musician.
I’ve been interested in music from a young age, plus my parents are musicians to different extents: Dad is a singer and multi-instrumentalist, and Mom plays piano and occasionally sings.
My first instrument is guitar, which I got into around 2004-2005, when I was roughly 7 years old. I’ve never really been good at it, and I still don’t know how to play sharp/flat chords, nor do I know how to play a B without barring my index finger against the second fret. I also don’t know how to play Cm, Fm, Gm and Bm. The last time I played guitar was roughly 6 months ago (for those reading this much later, March 2024), when I recorded “Kite! Kite!“ (pronounced “key-teh”, 来て!来て!). Since then I have given my guitar to Dad.
My second instrument, which is now my main instrument, is the electric bass (or “bass guitar” as many call it; I just say “bass”), which I got into in 2014. I actually started by practicing on a dormmate’s acoustic-electric bass during church camp. I officially started playing at church the next Sunday (June 22, 2014), a day when Dad was sick, and it surprised Mom, as would be expected. I started out playing my dad’s old Yamaha BB330, which is a 4-string, but in May 2020 I bought my own Yamaha TRBX305, a 5-string bass, which I have been using in recordings since then. The first recording (that I remember) in which this bass was used is when I changed the bass of my video intro in July 2020. This is also the same bass that was used when I helped out Japanese musician Kazuhiro Seri (aka Paseri) with 2 songs that he remade in 2024 (Mr. Paseri was a child star on Japanese national television from 1975-1981, when he was a founding member of all-boys’ singing group Big Mammoth).
I am also interested in drums, piano and maybe steel guitar, but 2 of those will likely be in the distant future.
